If you have
seen the 1994 movie, Forrest Gump (one of my favorite movies of all time), you would probably
remember when Forrest and Bubba talked about opening their own restaurant. And
ultimately, in the movie, Forrest pursued the idea of opening a shrimp
restaurant after Bubba’s death in the Vietnam war. This restaurant is named after
the iconic Forrest Gump movie characters, Benjamin Buford "Bubba" Blue and Forrest Gump. Bubba Gump Shrimp Co. & Restaurant, established in California in 1996, remains the first and only theme restaurant
chain based on a motion picture.
This family
friendly restaurant has now over 30 locations worldwide including Hong Kong's
Peak Tower. The Hong Kong branch
is located at Shop 304 & 305, Level 3, The Peak Tower -
which offers the most spectacular and breath-taking view of the entire Victoria
harbor.
While enjoying
the view, Hubby and I started our feast with glasses of Pomegranate Margarita (HK$88 – 22oz) along with Mama Gump’s Garlic Bread Basket (HK$38). The cocktail is a combination of the best
Cuervo Gold Tequila, pomegranate syrup and cointreau - one of the best
margaritas I've ever tasted. As for the garlic bread, which is free, it tastes
amazing.
This restaurant
prides itself on being the place to go for fantastic shrimp, and I have no
doubt about that. Run Across America Sampler (HK$160) is surely a must-order - satisfying shrimp feast
– combination of Chilled Shrimp, Fried Shrimp, spicy Chicken Strips, Hush Pups
and Popcorn Shrimp. I must agree with what Bubba said, “Shrimp is the fruit of the sea. You can barbecue it, boil it, broil it,
and bake it, sauté it, and goes on and on and on…” Though it’s a bit pricey, it was worth it.
Daniel and I
both ordered Steak and Shrimp Combo (HK$258). It’s a combination of tasty grilled USDA New
York Strip Loin and skewered Shrimp served with mashed potatoes. Yum…yum…yummy!
This is my favorite by the way.
As for our
dessert, we chose to order Chocolate Chip Cookie Sundae (HK$72). It’s a warm, fresh baked chocolate chip cookie
topped with vanilla ice cream (our favorite), caramel, chocolate, peanuts and
whipped cream. The name itself is already too inviting.
Food was great,
service was excellent, and prices were a bit steep but worth it. And I love
that it really follows on Forrest Gump's life, philosophy and love of shrimp. You’ll see
a lot of memorabilia and photos from the movie, along with reproductions of
script pages, storyboards and costumes.
Hubby and I had a delightful
experience.
