It’s been 4
years. Time really does fly huh? Pictures are scattered everywhere, and I am trying
very hard to recall what we did that day. But let’s give it a shot!
There is absolutely no way you can leave Hong Kong without going here! As a child I always dreamed of visiting the world of cartoons – Disneyland. And 20 years later, my Husband fulfilled that dream of mine. Disneyland is a place which brought me back my childhood days and I felt just like another happy, optimistic, innocent child going there and wished that feeling could exist forever. It was a great experience indeed except for the cold weather. We were freeeezing! Haha
Disneyland is
located in Lantau Island. The best and fastest way to reach the Theme Park is
to take the MTR. It’s about 30 minutes from anywhere in the city. Going to
Disneyland is pretty easy; prices aren’t so bad as well. I will be writing a
separate post on how to get there and the prices. For now, let me share with
you our Hong Kong Disneyland experience first…and of course with pictures…tons
of them! *wink*
Here we are,
inside the Hong Kong MTR Disneyland Resort Line, your fancy ride to the Magical
Place! The interior of the train is very stylish with Mickey decors all over;
Mickey Mouse shaped windows, Mickey Mouse shaped handles, statues of Disney
characters, and rather plush seating. If you’re not staying inside Disneyland
resort and you're on the main Hong Kong Island like us, you should leave early because
the trains to get to the park get super busy and it can be a bit of a headache.
Here I am with
the Hubby making faces while waiting for our entrance ticket. You can check
with your hotel, guesthouse or hostel as many of them have discount entry tickets
for Disneyland. We fail to do that. 1 Day (Normal) costs HKD 450. Try to
get into the park at sharp 10:00am, but if you want to see the evening light
and fireworks display I would suggest going later in the day. Best time to
visit is week days, it’s not very crowded and wait time for major rides/shows
is anywhere between 5-30 minutes.
We first went
to "Tomorrowland" where there is the Buzz
light year ride. We only took pictures though as the lines were too long. We
end up having lunch instead.
After a good
lunch, we headed off to “It’s a Small World.” We had fun sailing on that
little-musical-boat-ride while discovering different cultures through those
over 300 brightly costumed audio-animatronics’ dolls in the style of children
of the world, singing the attraction's title song in their own language.
We tried to see the Disney Princesses, but I got tired waiting in the
long line and just gave up. We went to see Goofy (left picture), and Pooh
(right photo) instead and thankful that the line was not that long. Note that
you need a lot of patience so you can enjoy your Disneyland trip. Don’t be a
lazy-ass like me.
We also checked
the shops there. The shops were full of Disney things (of course!), but we
didn't buy anything as they were too expensive. The stall and shop owners were
very helpful. Despite knowing little English, they tried their best to keep us, guests and visitors, comfortable. And I felt bad for not buying anything. *hide*
“Disney
Festival of Fantasy Parade" was the highlight of our trip. I didn't know
anything about it. I have no slightest idea about the parade. At around 3:30pm,
I heard a band playing and saw these people running as if they were trying to
watch something. And just out of curiosity, we followed the crowd. The parade
featured about 100 performers showing the different stories of Disney and Pixar
films. The classic Disney characters, Mickey Mouse and Minnie Mouse, were the
highlight of the parade.
I would suggest that you plan your visit accordingly so that you do not miss the parade and shows. Don’t be an ignorant and impatient like me so you get to enjoy the whole trip. If you want to relive your childhood days and just go back to the time when you have not a care in the world, then you must visit this place. Hong Kong Disneyland is really a must visit place even if you are not travelling with children, it really is a place where anyone can be a kid again.
