My List of Best Romantic Comedy Korean Drama - Most Highly Recommended

Hello everyone. I decided to create a separate blog post for additional Korean dramas. I thought this list is getting too long and some of you might be having hard time loading the page. Please click here to check the part 2 of this list.

I would say I used to hate Romantic Comedy dramas. And then I met my husband, Lee Min Ho. Oppps, don’t kill me! Haha! My feelings towards the typical romantic comedy are a lot like my feelings toward “Sodas”. I know they were crap, but some unspecified addictive chemical in them kept me drinking. And because I got too addicted to it, I came up with an idea to embark on a quest to find the good quality romantic comedies. I’ve been watching one romantic comedy drama just about every night since 2012. My little project doesn’t come close to my college thesis research, but I did find some amazing Korean Drama gems. Feel free to scroll down below. Note that I have changed the arrangement of this list to “By Year”.

2016 South Korean Romantic Comedy Dramas:

Descendants of the Sun
Main Cast:
Song Joong Ki as Captain Yoo Shi Jin of the Alpha Team (aka Big Boss)
Song Hye Kyo as Professor Kang Mo Yun (aka Beauty)
Jin Goo as Chief Master Sergeant Seo Dae Young (aka Wolf)
Kim Ji Won as Lieutenant Yoon Myung Joo (Orthopedic Surgeon)
Kang Shin Il as Lieutenant General Yoon (Myung Joo's father) (aka Yellow Tiger)

My Short Review: Tell me ya’ll watched this drama already? Right? If you haven’t, what exactly are you doing? Haha! Song Joong Ki became one of my most favorite Korean actors since I watched him in Sungkyunkwan Scandal and Innocent Man (Nice Guy). This guy, how can you not love him? He, alone, is enough reason to watch this drama. Lol Anyway, kidding aside, the drama was really good. The plot, the actors, the chemistry between the casts – total package. Plus you get to see tons of good-looking-shirtless actors running around.

Signal
Main Cast:
Lee Je Hoon as Park Hae Young (late 20s, profiler)
Kim Hye Soo as Cha Soo Hyun (mid 20s - late 30s, detective)
Jo Jin Woong as Lee Jae Han (mid 20s - mid 30s, detective)

My Short Review: Yes, this drama is not a Romantic comedy and shouldn’t be on this list, but Signal is no doubt one of the best Korean dramas of 2016. I have no idea what else can top this. The story is so smart, filled with great characters. Not so much on the love interest side, no big battle, but the best story you will ever find on a drama, a wonderful story (emotional, realistic, and dramatic) with things that will chill and warm you. Aside from the three main actors, who gave their best to portray their characters, I would also like to express my admiration to Jang Hyun Sung. The dude is freaking good, to the point that I want to kill him because he’s too evil (very convincing). I am giving this drama a perfect 10/10.

Cheese In The Trap
Main Cast:
Park Hae Jin as Yoo Jung
Kim Go Eun as Hong Seol
Seo Kang Joon as Baek In Ho
Lee Sung Kyung as Baek In Ha
Nam Joo Hyuk as Kwon Eun Taek
Park Min Ji as Jang Bo Ra

My Short Review: This drama started so good. The actors were all good; they played their characters so well. The drama was mysterious but cute and very engaging. Unfortunately, the PD decided to give this beautiful drama a terrible finale. Yes, I thought the finale was terrible. I felt bad for the whole cast, especially Park Hae Jin. But overall, I still recommend this drama.

Moorim School
Main Cast:
Lee Hyun Woo as Yoon Shi Woo
Seo Ye Ji as Sim Soon Duk
Hong Bin as Wang Chi Ang
Jung Yoo Jin as Hwang Sun Ah

My Short Review: I watched this drama because of my Mom. She loved this! Honestly, what I first started watching Moorim School, I thought it’s giving me that Harry Potter and Dream High feel. Though a lot of people say that the story line was kind of boring (because they were dragging out the story-line for too long), I still find this show cute and light to watch. The finale was satisfying one, and I am glad that everyone was given a happy ending. If you want something easy to watch, this might be for you.

Please Come Back, Mister
Main Cast
Kim In Kwon as Kim Young Soo (41)
Rain as Lee Hae Joon (30s)
Kim Soo Ro as Han Gi Tak (41)
Oh Yeon Seo as Han Hong Nan (20s)
Lee Min Jung as Shin Da Hye (early 30s)
Lee Ha Nui as Song Yi Yeon (30s)
Choi Won Young as Cha Jae Gook (40s)
Yoon Park as Jung Ji Hoon (mid 30s)

My Short Review: I started watching this out of curiosity, but I end up loving this. The flow of the drama was good, and I find it entertaining. This had me laughing hysterically so many times but also provided its fair share of heart (the finale has me bawling!). This drama makes me realize how important it is to value what you have, before it’s too late to start appreciating them. After we die, we will never be given a second chance to do the things we wish we should have done. Give this drama a shot; you might end up liking this as well.

2015 South Korean Romantic Comedy Dramas:

Oh My Venus
Main Cast:
So Ji Sub as Kim Young Ho / John Kim (35)
Shin Min Ah as Kang Joo Eun (33)
Jung Gyeo Woon as Im Woo Shik (33)
Yoo In Young as Oh Soo Jin (33)

My Short ReviewThe drama plot is light and simple, and journey is sweet and entertaining. The chemistry between the leads is more than enough reason for you to watch this drama. So Ji Sub and Shin Min Ah make an adorable couple and they delivered their characters beautifully. I laughed and giggled a lot through the whole series. Honestly, I expected more from this drama, but nevertheless I was satisfied with the flow and the finale.

Twenty Again 두번째 스무살
Main Cast:
Choi Ji Woo as Ha No Ra (38)
Lee Sang Yoon as Cha Hyun Suk (38)
Choi Won Young as Kim Woo Chul (43)
Kim Min Jae as Kim Min Soo (20)
Son Na Eun as Oh Hye Mi (20)

My Short Review: I literally cried when this drama ended. I adore this drama and the main leads. I love how the plot focused on female lead’s simple story and her road to self discovery. It’s been an uplifting and emotional journey for No Ra; she actually inspired me to do some soul searching on my own. Lots of life lessons in this drama and I thoroughly enjoyed the whole journey with the whole cast. I am happy with how it ended, but it would have been more fulfilling to see the romance with Hyun Suk develop.

She Was Pretty 그녀는 예뻤다 – 2015
Main Cast:
Hwang Jung Eum as Kim Hye Jin / Jackson
Park Seo Joon as Ji Sung Joon
Go Joon Hee as Min Ha Ri
Choi Shi Won as Kim Shin Hyuk

My Short Review: This drama is sweet, light and funny. Plot-wise, it was so-so, but I like how things turned out. The satisfying finale was also a plus. But I truly wish, in my dreams, that second lead would be given a chance to live a happy life as well. But you know what’s funny? It is when you realize that the supporting characters have better stories than the main leads, except they don’t get a happy ending. Well, I wasn’t saying the leads were bad; I was referring to the story line. Enough with my whining! I still highly recommend this drama.

Kill Me, Heal Me 킬미, 힐미
Main Cast:
Ji Sung as Cha Do Hyun / Shin Se Gi / Perry Park / Ahn Yo Sub / Ahn Yo Na / Nana / Mysterious X
Hwang Jung Eum as Oh Ri Jin
Park Seo Joon as Oh Ri Ohn
Oh Min Suk as Cha Ki Joon
Kim Yoo Ri as Han Chae Yun

My Short Review: This is one of the most interesting dramas I’ve ever seen, and one of those dramas that made me weep. It’s a good kind of weird story line, very creative, full of heart and the characters are very well executed. Ji Sung truly took me on a roller coaster of emotions. I loved all the characters (personalities) he portrayed, I laughed and cried my eyes out because of them. This drama is great, and the finale was sweet and heartwarming. I can’t be more satisfied.

Oh My Ghost 오 나의 귀신님
Main Cast:
Park Bo Young as Na Bong Sun
Jo Jung Suk as Kang Sun Woo
Im Joo Hwan as Choi Sung Jae
Kim Seul Gi as Shin Soon Ae
Park Jung Ah as Lee So Hyung

My Short Review: This is one of the few dramas I wish would never end. I cried my heart out with its finale, the emotions were so genuine, and how the goodbyes were beautifully done. This drama is almost perfect, well it sure had its share of missteps along the way, but I really don’t care. Oh My Ghost made me laugh, weep, and the story-line really warmed my heart. The actors and actresses portrayed their parts really well, not to mention they all have great chemistry. P.S. The bromance will make you giggle, and the kisses were so real. Haha! You better watch this, you’d definitely love it.

Healer 힐러
Main Cast:
Ji Chang-wook as Seo Jung-hoo/Park Bong-soo/Healer
Park Min-young as Chae Young-shin/Oh Ji-an
Yoo Ji-tae as Kim Moon-ho

My Short Review: I am giving this drama a perfect 10. To all of us K-Drama addicts, we know it’s rare enough to find a drama that is consistently good from the first episode ‘til its finale. Healer gave me everything I wanted – a great and realistic story line (with lots of kisses! lol), very well written scripts, characters were all good (nobody was wasted), and of course, a very satisfying finale.

Pinnochio 피노키오
Main Cast:
Lee Jong Suk as Choi Dal Po / Ki Ha Myung
Park Shin Hye as Choi In Ha
Kim Young Kwang as Seo Bum Jo
Lee Yoo Bi as Yoon Yoo Rae

My Short Review: There were flaws in the story but who cares, its Lee Jong Seok’s drama! Lol Kidding aside, I love this drama, not just because I love the leads but also the story is heartwarming. I appreciate how it shows and centers the importance of Family. The writer deserves the credit, for bringing such a thoughtful, compelling story to viewers. This drama carried a meaningful message while giving us lots of entertaining and cute moments, and of course a sweet and satisfying finale. Definitely a must watch.

Warm and Cozy 맨도롱 또똣
Main Cast:
Yoo Yun Suk as Baek Gun Woo
Kang So Ra as Lee Jung Joo
Lee Sung Jae as Song Jung Geum
Kim Sung Oh as Hwang Wook
Seo Yi Ahn as Mok Ji Won
Jin Young as Jung Poong San

My Short Review:There’s a bit a conflict in the story line, and also a bit dragging, but the cuteness and the chemistry of the casts beat those flaws. Though I said the story is a bit dragging, but you can completely relate to it. Warm and Cozy is very light; it makes it easy to watch. I kept laughing at the silliness of the characters. It’s worth a try, you’d find it entertaining.

The Eccentric Daughter-in-Law 별난 며느리
Main Cast:
Kim Da Som as Oh In Young
Go Doo Shim as Yang Choon Ja
Ryu Soo Young as Cha Myung Suk

My Short Review: This is a gem. I tried watching this because I was out of dramas to watch, but to my surprise, this one is really good. There’s nothing fancy about this drama, it’s a simple family-oriented story, but it gives you a light and refreshing feeling. And I am surprise with Kim Da Som’s acting; it’s something you won’t expect from an idol. This is worth a try.

A Girl Who Sees Smells 냄새를 보는 소녀
Main Cast:
Park Yoo Chun as Choi Moo Gak
Shin Se Kyung as Choi Eun Sul / Oh Cho Rim
Nam Goong Min as Kwon Jae Hee
Yoon Jin Seo as Yum Mi

My Short Review: This is a cute and interesting drama. Though I have so many unanswered questions, I still think this drama is good. I actually am thankful I gave this a try; it shows me different side of Yoochun and Se Kyung, the funny sides. Their chemistry overshadowed the flaws of the series. This adorable drama is worth watching.

Producer 프로듀사
Main Cast:
Cha Tae Hyun as Ra Joon Mo
Kim Soo Hyun as Baek Seung Chan
Gong Hyo Jin as Tak Ye Jin
IU as Cindy

My Short Review: This isn’t your typical Korean Drama. Though this is some fort of drama-documentary-ish style, it still didn’t disappoint me. The story was very engaging and entertaining…you’d laugh, you’d cry. Not to mention the main leads are high caliber actors and actresses in the industry…their acting is flawless.

Ho Goo’s Love 호구의 사랑
Main Cast:
Uee as Do Do Hee
Choi Woo Shik as Kang Ho Goo
Im Seul Ong as Byun Kang Chul
Lee Soo Kyung (이수경) as Kang Ho Kyung

My Short Review: The story is light, hilarious, very relatable and realistic. I can’t stop laughing while watching this drama. Although I would not say this drama was perfect, but I must say that this was a very well written and executed one. They tackled a lot of important issues that has been happening in our society right now, quite the sensitive ones, but they were still able to keep the drama light and youthful.  And with that satisfying ending; I’d give this drama 8/10.

2014 South Korean Romantic Comedy Dramas:

It's Okay, It's Love 괜찮아사랑이야
Main Cast:
Jo In Sung as Jang Jae Yul
Gong Hyo Jin as Ji Hae Soo
Sung Dong Il as Jo Dong Min
Lee Kwang Soo as Park Soo Kwang

My Short Review: Realistic and healing! It was a crazy-funny ride. Literally crazy I would say. If you’re up for some kind of psychiatric-medical-romance, this one is for you. It's a sweet story that has real and down to earth dialog. There’ll be scenes that will have you laughing one moment only to cry the next - a good deal of heart. Surely a must watch. 9/10

Marriage Not Dating 연애 말고 결혼
Main Cast:
Han Groo as Joo Jang Mi (29)
Yun Woo Jin as Gong Ki Tae (33)
Jung Jin Woon as Han Yeo Reum (28)
Han Sun Hwa as Kang Se Ah (33)

My Short Review: I'd give this drama a perfect 10/10. The chemistry between the leads, the hilarious scenes, the awesome script, the acting, the facial expressions, and the kissing scenes – everything was just too perfect, realistic and so convincing. I honestly have zero expectations when I started watching this, but the story totally blown me away. It’s really nothing extra ordinary; it is a romantic comedy, but definitely a breather. I’d say this drama is a master piece - there’s so much heart to it.

Bride of the Century 백년의 신부
Main Cast:
Yang Jin Sung as Na Doo Rim (25) / Jang Yi Kyung (25) / Boon Yi
Lee Hong Ki as Choi Kang Joo (29)
Nam Jung Hee (남정희) as Park Soon Bok (78, Doo Rim's grandmother)
Park Jin Joo as Oh Jin Joo (25, Doo Rim's childhood friend)

My Short Review: I thought this would be a boring series but I was completely wrong. Having almost zero expectations, Bride of the Century surprised me and went far beyond my expectations on Korean Dramas. Never thought this drama would turn out this good. Though I don’t believe in ghost, curse and reincarnation in real life, I still had fun watching this. I love this drama from start-to-finish, and for that, this series made it to my list of Favorite Korean dramas ever. It’s a keeper in my book!

2013 South Korean Romantic Comedy Dramas:

Master's Sun / 주군의 태양
Main Cast:
So Ji Sub as Joo Joong Won / Joo-goon
Gong Hyo Jin as Tae Gong Sil / Tae-yang
Seo In Guk as Kang Woo
Kim Yoo Ri as Tae Yi Ryung

My Short Review: I love this drama -it was definitely an awesome ride – and gave me one satisfying finale. I can’t help but literally stretching my smile from ear to ear while watching this drama! I am so thankful that the Hong Sisters didn't make another "BIG" mistake. This is a must watch drama, but I would have liked more kisses! lol

I Can Hear Your Voice / 너의 목소리가 들려
Main Cast:
Lee Bo Young as Jang Hye Sung
Lee Jong Suk as Park Soo Ha
Yoon Sang Hyun as Cha Kwan Woo

My Short Review: This drama is one of the best dramas I've ever watched. Yes, there are flaws, right at the almost end part but that was totally fine. Through the story, in each and every single episode, I got to know the characters more. I had mixed emotions. I love all the cast. All of them, including the killer-turned-stalker that’s effectively scared me out in the whole drama, and that same character that made me cry in the last few episodes. Not because he is bad, but because of his story. And you'll know it if you'll watch it! Definitely a must watch!

You Who Came From the Stars / 별에서  그대
Main Cast:
Jun Ji Hyun as Chun Song Yi (28, top actress/university student)
Kim Soo Hyun as Do Min Joon (alien/university professor)
Park Hae Jin as Lee Hwi Kyung (28, youngest son of S&C Group)
Yoo In Na as Yoo Se Mi (28, supporting actress)

My Short Review: SuperbDaebak! The most fun drama, ever! I laughed out loud at every single episode. This was charming, witty and very engaging. I am so sad to see it end! Well thought-out, well acted and directed, well written. I can't say enough good things about this drama. Kudos! Thanks for making this drama! P.S. - don't miss the epilogues at the end of each episode, sometimes there are short funny skits and then there are continuations of a special moment that you don't see during the episode.

The Prime Minister and I / 총리와
Main Cast:
Lee Bum Soo as Kwon Yul (42)
Im Yoon Ah as Nam Da Jung (28)
Yoon Shi Yoon as Kang In Ho (32)
Chae Jung Ahn as Seo Hye Joo (35)
Ryu Jin as Park Joon Ki (42)

My Short Review: Though the ending is not what I expected it to be. But still, this drama goes above and beyond my expectations! I love that this drama is grounded on those values and the importance of family. As much as it is hilarious and random, the story is quite deep and meaningful. This drama has made a strong impact, and definitely considered it as one of my favorite dramas of the year. You'd laugh a lot while watching this. A must watch!

Good Doctor / 굿 닥터
Main Cast:
Joo Won as Park Shi Ohn
Moon Chae Won as Cha Yoon Seo
Joo Sang Wook as Kim Do Han
Kim Min Seo as Yoo Chae Kyung

My Short Review: This is one of the very best Korean dramas I have ever watched! I just finished watching the last episode. I am getting all sentimental and teary as I replay this drama in my head. This story is very well written. I can’t seem to find a flaw. Everything is perfect from beginning, middle, and its finale. I don’t have any unanswered questions. Everything comes to a closure.

Reply 1994 응답하라 1994
Main Cast:
Go Ah Ra as Sung Na Jung
Sung Dong Il as Sung Dong Il (Na Jung's father)
Lee Il Hwa as Lee Il Hwa (Na Jung's mother)
Jung Woo as Sseu Re Ki / Trash (Na Jung's older brother)
Yoo Yun Suk as Chil Bong Yi
Kim Sung Kyun as Sham Chun Po
Son Ho Joon as Hae Tae
Baro as Bing Geu Re
Min Do Hee as Jo Yoon Jin

My Short Review: One of the best! I love this drama from Episode 1 up to its finale. This series is by far one of the best South Korean TV Dramas I have seen so far. The acting, the directing, the editing, and the deliverance, overall A+ all around. The series is unique in itself. I always appreciate well made art and this show was exactly that: Art. If you are more of the "typical" rom-com affair, check this one out. It's a breath of fresh air and you won't regret it.

Gu Family Book / 구가의서 (九家 )
Main Cast:
Lee Seung Ki as Choi Kang Chi
Suzy as Dam Yeo Wool
Lee Sung Jae as Jo Kwan Woong
Jo Sung Ha as Dam Pyung Joon
Yoo Yun Suk as Park Tae Seo
Lee Yoo Bi as Park Chung Jo
Sung Joon as Gon

My Short Review: This drama starts with a heart breaking event, which actually makes my Mom stopped watching it. She said it’s too sad! Ha-ha But anyway, I’m so much happier with every single episode. There is perfect balance of character development, awesome face-offs and emotional payoffs, and of course a lot of cute couple moments. Everything was perfect - all characters are played very well by the actors and actresses, the action, the romance, the twists. The villains did a fantastic job! This drama is unforgettable. And like a good book, once you start watching it, you won’t want to stop! The ending of this drama will make you wish for a Part 2. *cough* And again, I am forcing everybody to watch this.

The Heirs aka The Inheritors
Main Cast:
Lee Min Ho as Kim Tan
Park Shin Hye as Cha Eun Sang
Choi Jin Hyuk as Kim Won
Kim Woo Bin as Choi Young Do
Jung Soo Jung as Lee Bo Na
Kim Ji Won as Rachel Yoo
Kang Min Hyuk as Yoon Chan Young
Kang Ha Neul as Lee Hyo Shin
Park Hyung Shik as Jo Myung Soo
Jun Soo Jin as Kang Ye Sol

My Short Review: I really enjoyed watching this drama and I recommend this to anyone but don't set your expectations too high. I love all the characters; I just don’t like the plot that much. But overall, it’s a good drama and a must watch! I’ll probably watch the whole 20 episodes again because it was so satisfying. And hey, I am now officially head over heels in love with Kim Woo Bin! Isn't he so good looking? *grin*

Flower Boy Next Door / 이웃집 꽃미남
Main Cast:
Park Shin Hye as Go Dok Mi
Yoon Shi Yoon as Enrique Geum
Kim Ji Hoon as Oh Jin Rak

My Short Review: At first, I thought this was just another romantic comedy, but I have to say that it has a kind of deepness Korean dramas sometimes lack of, and at the same time it’s very funny and easygoing. The spirit of this drama is a convergence between the main characters personalities and I really like that! Park Shin Hye does a great job and the story line is very original. The actor that portrays Enrique is very charming and kinda makes you fall in love with him. I really like a drama; I force everyone I know to watch it. lol

Incarnation of Money 돈의 화신
Main Cast:
Kang Ji Hwan as Lee Cha Don / Lee Kang Suk
Park Sang Min as Ji Se Kwang
Hwang Jung Eum as Bok Jae In
Choi Yeo Jin as Jeon Ji Hoo
Oh Yoon Ah as Eun Bi Ryung
Kim Soo Mi as Bok Hwa Sool

My Short Review: A perfect combination of melodrama and romantic comedy! Incarnation of Money is well-written, exciting and keeps you on the edge of your seat from episode to episode. The first two episodes are background filler and thereafter, the thrilling ride begins. One really has to hold on to their seat once this drama takes off. Kang Ji Hwan delivers a stellar performance with each new episode. I have to give this drama 100+.

2012 South Korean Romantic Comedy Dramas:

Rooftop Prince 옥탑방 왕세자
Main Cast:
Micky Yoochun (Park Yoochun) as Lee Gak / Yong Tae Yong
Han Ji Min as Park Ha / Bu Yong
Lee Tae Sung as Yong Tae Moo
Jung Yoo Mi as Hong Se Na / Hwa Yong

My Short Review:I love this drama, so hilarious and compelling. This was the first time-travel drama I have watched, and I was afraid that it would disappoint me. But heck, I totally loved it. There are little flaws from here and there, but overall, I have to say that I liked this drama a lot. Rooftop Prince lingered with me a little. I found that it wasn’t as easy to move on as I had expected when I first started this show. Anyway, this is a show where you get to make up your mind about the ending that satisfies you. There are flaws that need to be overlooked, but if you can bring yourself to do that, you might just find a little gem of a love story that takes your breath away.

Queen In Hyun's Man 인현왕후의 남자
Main Cast:
Ji Hyun Woo as Kim Boong Do
Yoo In Na as Choi Hee Jin
Kim Jin Woo as Han Dong Min
Ga Deuk Hee as Jo Soo Kyung

My Short Review: If you haven’t watched this yet, oh God, you missed half of your life! Haha! Queen In Hyun’s Man was probably the least anticipated time-travel drama this year. I completely ignored this drama, until the drama started receiving attention for steamy kiss scenes and off-screen romance, that is. I was blown away. The cast, the acting, the directing, the editing, seems so perfect. I'd watch this over and over and over again!

Reply 1997 응답하라 1997
Main Cast:
Jung Eun Ji as Sung Shi Won
Seo In Guk as Yoon Yoon Jae
Shin So Yool as Mo Yoo Jung
Hoya as Kang Joon Hee
Eun Ji Won (
은지원) as Do Hak Chan
Lee Shi Un as Bang Sung Jae

My Short Review: I am guilty of the saying “Don't judge a book by its cover!” I really never thought this drama would turn out great. Reply 1997 is by far one of the best South Korean TV Dramas I have seen so far. I was very hesitant to watch this drama at first. I had the lowest of low expectations of this, but I was shocked when I was proven wrong. And it’s surprisingly great acting by non-experienced actors. Overall, I highly recommend this drama. Give it try, and I hope you’ll enjoy this drama as much as I do!

Arang and the Magistrate 아랑사또전
Main Cast:
Shin Min Ah as Arang / Lee Seo Rim
Lee Jun Ki as Kim Eun Oh
Yun Woo Jin as Choi Joo Wal
Kwon Oh Joong as Dol Swe
Han Jung Soo as Moo Young
Hwang Bo Ra as Bang Wool
Yoo Seung Ho as Jade Emperor

My Short Review: I started watching this drama because of Shin Min Ah. I admit I have had high expectations, and so glad that this drama didn’t disappoint me at all. Yes, there are ghosts in the series, but nope, this isn’t scary! Both Lee Jun Ki and Shin Min Ah are fantastic in this. Both showed excellent performances and they have such a great chemistry as a couple. Arang and the Magistrate isn't a perfect drama, but it gets pretty darn close. Don’t miss out!

A Gentleman's Dignity 신사의 품격
Main Cast:
Jang Dong Gun as Kim Do Jin
Kim Ha Neul as Seo Yi Soo
Kim Soo Ro as Im Tae San
Kim Min Jong as Choi Yoon
Lee Jong Hyuk as Lee Jung Rok
Yoon Se Ah as Hong Se Ra
Kim Jung Nan as Park Min Sook
Yoon Jin Yi as Im Me Ah Ri
Lee Jong Hyun as Collin

My Short Review: I’d say this is the Korean male version of “Sex and the City”. This is a very light and totally entertaining series. The ensemble cast has a collectively impressive resume, but don’t expect too much or you are likely to be disappointed. I started out bemused, but ended up enjoying this more than I expected to. This is quite different from the usual young love stories. It’s a good thing they did a series for people in the middle aged group. I like all the characters except for the whinny sister other than that it was very entertaining. Hope to see more middle aged series like this.

2011 South Korean Romantic Comedy Dramas:

The Greatest Love 최고의 사랑
Main cast:
Gong Hyo Jin as Goo Ae Jung
Cha Seung Won as Dokko Jin
Yoo In Na as Kang Se Ri
Yoon Kye Sang as Yoon Pil Joo

My Short Review: So fun! You didn't think I’d miss this one, right? It’s the Hong sisters. This is maybe not their zaniest, funniest drama, but it makes up for that with a hilariously tongue-in-cheek look into their own industry. It takes a little while to hit its groove — it’s amusing at first, but I didn't find it immediately addicting. But when the pace finally kicks in, you feel that tug of excitement that gets you in the gut. Woot! You’d surely have so much fun if you’ll watch this. *wink*

Flower Boy Ramyun Shop 꽃미남 라면가게
Main Cast:
Jung Il Woo as Cha Chi Soo
Lee Chung Ah as Yang Eun Bi
Lee Ki Woo as Choi Kang Hyuk

My Short Review: Fun and lighthearted romantic comedy! This show examines all aspects of relationships, including the obstacles that get in the way and the conflicts in our hearts. And it’s funny as heck.

My Princess 마이 프린세스 (Watch Here)
Main Cast:
Song Seung Hun as Park Hae Young
Choi Won Hong as young Hae Young
Kim Tae Hee as Lee Seol

My Short Review: This drama has all the things a good Korean drama usually. The chemistry between the two is explosive and they're just one of those couples who you hope will end up together for real! This drama is one of those feel-good ones, so everyone has a happy ending! So if gorgeous actors, gorgeous actresses, scenes that'll make you LOL and scenes that'll make you cry, a happy ending for all and one of the most realistic kisses in the whole k-drama world isn't enough to convince you to watch My Princess, I don't know what is!

Lie to Me 내게 거짓말을 해봐
Main Cast:
Yoon Eun Hye as Gong Ah Jung
Kang Ji Hwan as Hyun Ki Joon
Sung Joon as Hyun Sang Hee
Jo Yoon Hee as Oh Yoon Joo
Hong Soo Hyun as Yoo So Ran
Ryu Seung Soo as Chun Jae Bum

My Short Review: It’s a good drama. It’s a little bit boring at first, but started taking interest after episode 4. Great performances by both leads Kang Ji-Hwan and Yoon Eun-Hye, specially kissing scenes, it was so passionate that even I got the chills of it. Anyway it was great and ending was nice, but still I would be happier if they had shown their marriage. But overall, it’s worth watching.

2010 South Korean Romantic Comedy Dramas:

My Girlfriend is a Gumiho  여자친구는 구미호
Main Cast:
Lee Seung Ki as Cha Dae Woong
Shin Min Ah as Gumiho / Park Sun Joo / Gil Dal
No Min Woo as Park Dong Joo
Park Soo Jin as Eun Hye In

My Short Review: To be honest, I was hesitant to watch this drama. I wasn’t really a fan of fantasy-like love stories, but this really did catch my attention. It's not a perfect drama, but despite that, I really enjoyed it. How can you not swoon over Lee Seung Ki's adorable dimples? How could I resist the delightful twist on a fairy tale? I'm a total sucker for good fairy tale adaptations, even if I'm not very well versed on the story. I also loved the mystery interwoven throughout the story, which added a nice tension and some conflict to the plot. Overall, this drama has a good story, decent pacing, cute acting, and an overall fresh feel.

Sungkyunkwan Scandal 성균관 스캔들 (Watch Here)
Main Cast:
Micky Yoochun as Lee Sun Joon
Park Min Young as Kim Yoon Hee
Song Joong Ki as Goo Yong Ha
Yoo Ah In as Moon Jae Shin
Seo Hyo Rim as Ha Hyo Eun
Kim Min Seo as Cho Sun

My Short Review: I really enjoyed Sungkyngkwan Scandal the first time I watched it. I loved the characters, I didn't think much of our hero, and I absolutely thought it was the cutest ending ever. In conclusion, despite some random plot-holes and it’s hastily put together ending, Sungkyunkwan Scandal was immensely enjoyable. It was great fun to watch, and I would definitely recommend it to friends and random strangers alike.

Secret Garden 시크릿 가든 (Watch Here)
Main Cast:
Hyun Bin as Kim Joo Won
Ha Ji Won as Gil Ra Im
Yoon Sang Hyun as Choi Woo Young / Oska (Joo Won's cousin)
Kim Sa Rang as Yoon Seul
Lee Philip as Im Jong Soo
Lee Jong Suk as Han Tae Ssun

My Short Review:This has everything you could imagine when you say “Korean drama”. A love story, action packed scenes, acts of revenge, couples who hate each other’s guts in the beginning and end up falling madly in love, interfering relatives, someone with a hidden past, someone with amnesia, someone who got in an accident and almost dies, someone willing to sacrifice himself for that dying person, secret events that happened in the past that ties the characters together, a shower scene, a scene where a poor girl gets a makeover and stuns a crowd of people, etc. This show had a good balance of romance, drama and comedy, which is probably why I liked it so much. Watch it if you have time, you’ll probably enjoy it as well.

Personal Preference 개인의 취향
Main Cast:
Son Ye Jin as Park Kae In
Lee Min Ho as Jeon Jin Ho
Kim Ji Suk as Han Chang Ryul
Wang Ji Hye as Kim In Hee

My Short Review: I have very mixed feelings about Personal Taste. I love Min Ho and Ye Jin really grew on me, but I think the best part of this show was when they were friends. It has such a slow start and gets so bogged down in lies that I honestly found myself hating the show by the end. Still, after getting to the end of it, I’m satisfied with what it is. I had fun along the way so it’s all the matters.

Playful Kiss 장난스런 키스
Main Cast:
Jung So Min as Oh Ha Ni
Kim Hyun Joong as Baek Seung Jo
Lee Tae Sung as Bong Joon Goo

My Short Review: I love this show. If I need to sum it up in a sentence, it’s really just that: I love it. It didn't try and gussy up the ultimately simple story-line. Sure there were some flaws, but they’re not really worth going on about. The show is just too sweet and fun and warm to pick on. You’d love it too!

2009 South Korean Romantic Comedy Dramas:

You're Beautiful 미남이시네요
Main Cast:
Jang Geun Suk as Hwang Tae Kyung
Park Shin Hye as Go Mi Nam (Male) / Go Mi Nyeo (Female)
Jung Yong Hwa as Kang Shin Woo
Lee Hong Ki as Kang On Yu / Jeremy

My Short Review: I love this drama. Thought it’s not totally unpredictable and doesn’t really wrap up until the last episode, I’d still say that whole series was good and their romance was satisfying. Still, as far as shows about a gender swap goes, I’d say that you’re Beautiful is by far the best one I've seen. The members of A.N.JELL are cute and well developed and Mi Nyu is absolutely lovable. This should be in your “must watch” list. Haha

Boys Before Flowers 꽃보다 남자
Main Cast:
Koo Hye Sun as Geum Jan Di
Lee Min Ho as Goo Joon Pyo
Kim Hyun Joong as Yoon Ji Hoo
Kim Bum as So Yi Jung
Kim Joon as Song Woo Bin
Kim So Eun as Chu Ga Eul (Jan Di's best friend)

My Short Review:Okay, let’s not argue regarding the plot, the story-line or the script. Just watching these good-looking guys on the screen alone, makes me go crazy! haha! I believe Boy Over Flower is actually the gateway to the Korean Drama Land. Am I right? :)

2006 South Korean Romantic Comedy Dramas:

Princess Hours / Goong
Main Cast:
Yoon Eun Hye as Shin Chae Kyung
Joo Ji Hoon as [Crown Prince Mu Won] Lee Shin
Kim Jung Hoon as [Eui Sung Goon/Dae Goon] Lee Yul
Song Ji Hyo as Min Hyo Rin

My Short Review: This drama has a special place in my heart. This is one of the few dramas I have watched more than nth time. The story was good, and of course, perfect chemistry and undeniable charm of the main leads. I would say that it’s a drama that makes you laugh out loud, and giggle like a little kid. Surely a must watch.

  1. I recently started watching my first K-Drama, which is Boys Over Flowers. When I'm done with that, I'm plan to watch Coffee Prince, You're Beautiful, Princess Hours, and most of the shows on your list. Based on this, can you suggest any other K-Dramas that I might like?

In Sung and Hyo Jin were perfect ♡ how can In Sung be so handsome?? ^^ ♡
I saw Hyo Jin first in My Greatest Love and i dont really appreciate her there, although the story was superb. But in this drama she is soooo gorgeous. Although i am a girl i really think she's way too gorgeous ♡ fighting ^^

Hi dear, should add in the drama Fated To Love You... starring Jang Hyuk and Jang Nara... this drama got everything in one, comedy, romantic, sad, touching all in one emotions, u name it, u got it... Jang hyuk was so GOOD LOOKING in that movie, he was like a white sheet of canvas that suit any colours and hair style put on him in that show. the acting was also SUPERB. He surprised me with his comical humoured side as an actor...this show is good and addictive, i watched it many times...

  28. Great list. I have watched all of them, however you are missing a few gems which I think are a must on any romantic comedy list.
1st I would remove bride of the century and secret garden of the list as I dont think they were romantic comedies, in fact I dropped bride of the century half way through, so boring it got. Secret garden is on my all time favourites list.
Then I would add Cunning single lady, Emergency couple and King2hearts.
And last but not least are Full House and My Girl, the latter being simply the best drama ever!!!! Or maybe I'm biased as it was my very first drama, almost a decade ago, so it will always have a special place in my heart and I'll always think that no list complete without it, hehehehe.

  69. I started to watch Korean dramas the last few months and yes I have gone through 1 drama series a week lol since TVB has let me down. At the moment im watching "Ghost" also known Phantom. On episode 13 at the moment, the first 10 episode wow me, took me into the world of computer and phone device hacking world. If you like police stories and computer hacking, its a must, well at least for the first 10 episodes but also bear in mind the sounds in the background can make you jump and scared at times, but a good drama. The main actor is the guy from The Master's Son so if anyone likes watching him then u must watch this. Also the "Level 7 Civil Servant" is a good police drama to watch if u have time.

  83. Hi dear, I am from INDIA..My addiction towards korean dramas started when i was in college..I watched "YOU ARE BEAUTIFUL" for the first time...after that i saw boys over flowers(i don't like that much),secret garden(loved it),city hunter, prosecutor princess, mary stayed out all night..then i lost interest in korean stuff maybe cause of last few i saw were too bad....Then after long time i again felt same addiction..i can't even express in words how i feel after watching HEALER..loved it totally..i was blown away..I like the actor who played Healer ji chang wook so much..I am in love with him..He is so hot..actually in India we prefer guys having good physique and he have everything..Also i have finished watching pinocchio,it is also good..I think in 3 years korean industry have changed quite a lot, storyline, performances have become better..they don't just cover romance now..I watch dramas with eng subtitles but i have learned few korean words also like Chogiyo, saranghae and few more :P...right now i am watching MY LOVE FROM ANOTHER STAR and it is also good..But you know what i can't get over HEALER..they should extend this show.. i wish this could happen..I really like your blog..Please suggest me some more drama like healer...i think you have good taste...

It can get busy at times, watching so many dramas at the same time. Now I'm watching so many ongoing dramas plus the ones that I missed in the past. Often times I stop watching in the middle ofthe drama because I found them boring and too common already. I guess that's the disadvantage when you've seen a lot already it's difficult to find a drama that has a unique plot and story.. ☺

  89. I've seen them all already all good! I've been watching since 2010 😄 I watch my dramas in these sites myasiantv, sensen tv, dramafire, dramacool their dramas are all in full and not in parts. I used to watch in gooddrama I got annoyed it's time consuming to watch in parts.. happy watching 😄
